The following items are acceptable for our recycling program:
Paper and Cardboard
- Flattened corrugated cardboard and paperboard (empty cereal boxes, empty detergent boxes, empty tissue boxes)
- Newspaper, flyers, inserts, Junk mail and envelopes
- Catalogues, magazines, telephone books, paperback books, hardcover books with covers and spine removed.
- Brown paper bags, tissue roll cores, gift and packing paper, paper egg cartons
- Copier paper, NCR (no carbon required) paper
Aluminum and Tin
- Soup, beverage and vegetable cans, labels removed and rinsed thoroughly
- Foil trays and pie plates
- Soft drink and beer cans
Plastic
- Containers with logo 1-7 (Except Food Containers labelled #1)
- Plastic drink bottles
Aseptic Packaging and Cartons
- Juice and milk cartons, milk jugs, tetra-pak containers, pouches
Items which are not acceptable are:
- Household garbage, organics or hazardous waste
- Waxed, plasticized or food contaminated paper, cardboard cups or plastic plates
- Soiled tissues, napkins or paper towels
- Confetti shredded paper (strip shredded is accepted - bagged in blue recycling bags)
- Glass jars or bottles, mirrors of any kind, drinking glasses, ceramics, dishes, windshields, house windows
- Plastic cutlery, forks, knives, spoons, CD cases, pens, straws, clear and black plastic clam shells, film plastic (plastic bags and stretch wrap)
- Styrofoam or all other foam packing materials of all kinds is absolutely not allowed
- Black garbage bags
- Clear and black plastic clam shell/food containers
- Plastic shopping bags and stretch wrap
- Waxed brown paper, waxed coated cardboard, soup cardboard boxes, juice, milk, soy milk, rice milk, coconut milk and oat milk cartons are all accepted at Sarcan
- TVs, computers, computer monitors, printers, CPUs are accepted at Sarcan
- Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers; Penguin Refrigeration accepts fridges and freezers
- Household garbage
- Wood, lumber, particle board, drywall, nails, tile, concrete, bricks, siding, shingles, eave troughs, light bulbs
- Paint cans, aerosol cans, lighters, batteries, cell phones, electronics, car / truck / tractor batteries
- Diabetic needles, any other kind of needles
- Carbon paper
- Deodorant sticks, tooth paste tubes
- Frozen juice containers, foil from yogurt containers
- Ribbons, gift boxes
- String, baler twine
- Coffee cans, Good Host Iced tea cans, Pringle Chip cans
- Wire, banding or wire coat hangers
- Car parts
- Keurig coffee pods, pots, pans
- Wicker, metal
- Clothing can be recycled by donating to the Springside Community Resource Centre Pop Up Thrift Shop.
- Toys
- Furnace filters
Please note:
Every time there is a misuse of recycling, the Town of Springside is charged an extra processing fee. Please recycle appropriately.
